FBGA Package for F-RAM Enables Extra Rugged Memory On-Board
Building on the space savings and
reliability advantages of battery-free,
non-volatile Ferroelectric RAM (F-RAM),
designers using the 4-Mbit Ramtron
FM22LD16 in the 48-pin FBGA package
can implement four times the F-RAM
density within the same board
footprint of earlier 44-pin TSOP devices.
The FM22LD16 is pin-compatible with
asynchronous static RAM, and features fast
access times, virtually unlimited read/write
cycles, and low power consumption. The device
is organised as 256-kbits x 16, but is also
software-configurable as 512-kbits x 8. Other
features include the ability to read and write at
bus speed for NoDelay™ writes, endurance of at
least 100 trillion writes and 10-year data retention.
There is also a low power-supply drain voltage
monitor, which protects against inadvertent writes.
With a convenient interface to modern high-performance microprocessors,
the FM22LD16 features a high-speed pagemode that enables
four-byte burst read/write operations at up to
40MHz. This bus speed is significantly higher than
other non-volatile memory.
