Increase Protection and Boost Reliability With Enhanced Thyristors and Triacs
Littelfuse has increased the blocking
voltage and dV/dt immunity of popular
thyristors and triacs by a factor of five,
to deliver improved activation stability,
greater false-triggering protection and
higher transient survival for high-stress
or high-reliability applications.
In total there are four new families of Enhanced-Version
(EV) Teccore-brand devices, including
0.8A and 1.5A thyristors and 0.8A and 1.0A triacs.
With rated blocking voltages up to 800V and
static dV/dt at least 75V/µs, these devices not
only provide improved load protection but also
have higher resistance to failure mechanisms
such as permanent short circuits caused by highspeed
voltage transients.
The maximum turn-on time is also significantly
reduced, with values as low as 25µs in some
variants. In applications such as ground-fault
circuit interruption, fast turn-on time helps to
ensure proper operation of the associated
electro-mechanical breaker.
The enhanced
switching characteristics
of the EV devices also
minimise the need for
the snubber resistor
and capacitor often
added across the main
terminals of thyristors
or triacs with low dV/dt.
These help to ensure
proper protection of
the load, but can now
be avoided in many
applications by using
EV-series devices.
