SIDACs Step Up to High-Energy Applications, to Simplify Ignition Circuits
By replacing hybrid circuits for ignition
and switching applications, High-
Energy SIDAC switches from Littelfuse
deliver a less complex and lower-cost
solution in a variety of appliance and
lighting applications.
A SIDAC bi-directional thyrister diode
operates as a switch to discharge
accumulated capacitor energy, and the
Littelfuse High-Energy technology now allows
the use of large capacitors to generate higher
output currents suitable for direct-spark
ignition circuits. As well as saving cost and
complexity, High-Energy SIDACs also enhance
reliability in systems such as gas-ignition
circuits and strobe or discharge lighting.
Littelfuse High-Energy SIDACs are
engineered with repetitive peak-pulse-current
capability of 280A, which allows them to
deliver high output energy to the application.
Also, their high voltage stability at high
operating temperatures ensures predictable
firing-output energy. The choice of DO-15
axial, TO-92 radial or DO-214 surface-mount
packages eases design-in to a wide variety of
equipment types.
As an important additional benefit in
ignition systems, High-Energy SIDACs have
unlimited lifetime compared to alternatives
such as Gas Discharge Tubes (GDT), which are
often rated to 10,000 discharge events or
fewer.
