The SPWF01S intelligent Wi-Fi® module from STMicroelectronics is a stand-alone IEEE 802.11b/g/n solution which enables designers to quickly integrate wireless Internet connectivity into existing or new products for the Internet of Things.

The module consists of a single-chip 802.11 transceiver with an integrated power amplifier, and an STM32 microcontroller with an extensive general-purpose I/O suite. The modules also
include timing clocks and voltage regulators.

Benefitting from low power consumption and a small 27mm x 15mm x 2mm form factor, they are ideal for fixed and mobile wireless applications, and battery-powered applications
which require a long battery run-time.

The module is available as the SPWF01SA.x1 with an embedded 2.45GHz ISM band antenna, or as the SPWF01SC.x1 with a u.fl connector for an external antenna. There are also two memory options: the SPWF01Sx.1x orderable parts integrate 1.5Mbytes of Flash memory, while the SPWF01Sx.2x parts have 512kbytes.

The SPWF01Sx.x1 orderable parts are supplied with an integrated, full-featured TCP/IP protocol stack with added web server and additional application-service capabilities. The software
package also includes an AT command-layer interface for user-friendly access to the stack functions via the module’s UART serial port.

The X-NUCLEO-IDW01M1 is an expansion board which enables users of the SPWF01S to evaluate the chip in an application environment. The X-NUCLEO-IDW01M1 interfaces with the MCU on an STM32 Nucleo board via the UART serial port; the user can easily access the stack functions using AT commands.
