X-NUCLEO-IKA01A1: seven applications on one board

The X-NUCLEO-IKA01A1 is a multi-functional expansion board which enables designers to evaluate the performance of three STMicroelectronics operational amplifiers in a number of applications. It is compatible with STM32 Nucleo microcontroller boards, through which it can be combined with other boards to create a complete application environment.

The X-NUCLEO-IKA01A1 provides seven predefined configurations:
• Instrumentation amplifier
• Current sensing with or without USB
• Photodiode current sensing
• Buffer
• Full-wave rectifier
• Constant-current LED driver
• Window comparator

A highly accurate TSZ124 op amp is used in both the current-sensing and instrumentation amplifier configurations.

The current-sensing configuration provides for current measurement in any device that has a Micro-USB port. The instrumentation amplifier configuration demonstrates the performance of the TSZ124 in applications such as thermocouples, strain gauges and electro-cardiograms.

The expansion board also contains a TSU104 Nanopower op amp and a TSV734 Micropower op amp, which are both ideal for mobile applications. The TSU104 is used in the photodiode sensing configuration, for applications such as pulse oximetry, UV monitoring, smoke detectors and ambient light sensing. To support this configuration, the X-NUCLEO-IKA01A1 includes a through-hole IR photodiode and a trans-impedance amplifier with pre-set gain of 470,000.
