Vishay : TVS diodes in compact package offer strong protection against transient voltages

Vishay TVS diodes: fast response to voltage surges

Vishay has announced the introduction of the industry’s first series of surfacemount Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) protection diodes to feature a tight 2% breakdown-voltage tolerance.

Offered in a low-profile SMF package measuring just 2.8mm x 1.8mm x 0.98mm, the Vishay Semiconductors VTVSxxASMF series devices provide high surge capability of 400W at 10/1,000μs, making them ideal for protecting portable electronic systems against high transient voltages on the line.

The series consists of some 23 devices, rated for operation at reverse voltages ranging between 5V and 63V. As well as the 2% breakdown-voltage tolerance, an option for a 5% breakdown-voltage tolerance is also available.

VTVSxxASMF parts offer peak pulse currents of between 2.9A and 20.3A. Reverse clamping-voltage ratings start at 14.8V, rising to 103.5V.

The TVS diodes feature low-noise technology to avoid disturbance to other electronic components in the system. Very fast response times ensure that protection is applied before damage can be caused to the rest of the system. The diodes are rated for operation over a temperature range of -55°C to 150°C.

  • Low incremental surge resistance
  • ESD capability of ±30kV (air and contact discharge) in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2
