The ALED7707 from STMicroelectronics is a six-channel LED driver for use in interior and exterior automotive lighting applications.
It consists of a monolithic DC-DC boost converter and six current generators. The device can provide an output voltage up to 36V, sufficient to drive ten white LEDs per channel. The current generators may be externally programmed to sink up to 85mA per channel and may be dimmed with a PWM signal down to a 1% duty cycle at 1kHz. If an LED string requires a current higher than 85mA, two generators may be connected in parallel to provide a higher total current.
The device detects and manages open and short LED faults, and lets unused rows remain floating. Basic protection functions – output over-voltage, MOSFET over-current and thermal shut-down – are integrated in the ALED7707.
In addition, the ALED7707 has an LDO which supplies the internal circuitry of the device and is capable of providing an output up to 40mA.
