Vishay – Colour sensor offers precise sensing of red, green, blue and white ambient light in the VEML6040

Vishay has introduced a digital light sensor featuring Filtron™ technology for accurate sensing of red, green, blue and white light. It provides a response to ambient light which is close to that of the human eye.

The Vishay Semiconductors VEML6040 incorporates photo-diodes and a signal-processing IC in a compact 2.0mm x 1.25mm x 1.0mm surface-mount package. It senses red, green, blue and white light in 16-bit resolution for each colour channel. The VEML6040 is ideal for use in smart lights and lighting-control systems, in which it enables the brightness and colour temperature of the light output to be adjusted in response to the ambient light.

The VEML6040′s built-in ambient light photo-diode offers extremely high sensitivity, detecting illuminance in a range from 0.007865 lux to 16.5 klux. The sensor is immune to fluorescent light flicker.
