NXP – Tiny TVS diode offers 30kV of protection


NXP Semiconductors has introduced the PTVS15VZ1USK, a unidirectional Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) diode intended for mobile applications.

The device is housed in a DSN1608-2 (also known as SOD964) package with two terminals, which measures 1.6mm x 0.8mm x 0.3mm. It provides 30kV of protection against ESD strikes, for both contact and air discharges.

The PTVS15VZ1USK has a maximum reverse stand-off voltage of 15V at an ambient temperature of 25°C. The peak pulse current is rated at 52A when exposed to an 8/20μs pulse which is a high peak pulse capability for a device housed in such a small package. The rated peak power is 1.9kW in the same conditions.

Featuring a very small reverse leakage current of 0.1nA, the PTVS15VZ1USK may be used in battery-powered applications with almost no effect on battery run-time.
