STMicroelectronics – Board provides design blueprint for three-phase BLDC motor


STMicroelectronics has introduced the X-NUCLEO-IHM11M1, an expansion board for the STM32 Nucleo development platform which implements a low-voltage, three-phase Brushless DC (BLDC) motor driver.

Based on the STSPIN230, a BLDC motor driver IC, it provides an affordable and easy-to-use solution for the implementation of motor-driving circuits drawing a current of up to 1.3Arms. It supports algorithms for six-step and field-oriented commutation control schemes.

The X-NUCLEO-IHM11M1 is compatible with the Arduino UNO R3 connector and most STM32 Nucleo boards.

The STSPIN230 IC on the X-NUCLEO-IHM11M1 board integrates a triple half-bridge power stage. It is intended for use in battery- powered systems. It can be forced into a zero-power state, which helps users to extend battery run-time.

The device offers a complete set of protection functions including over-current, over-temperature and short-circuit protection.
