Vicor Corporation has added two new buck-boost regulators to its Cool-Power® ZVS regulator portfolio.
Providing up to 200W of power at more than 97% efficiency, the new PI3741-0x Cool-Power regulators incorporate Vicor’s proprietary high-frequency Zero-Voltage Switching (ZVS) technology.
Conventional, hard-switching buck-boost regulators are handicapped by switching losses, and suffer from a decline in conversion efficiency when operating from a high-voltage input which has extended dynamic range. In contrast, Vicor’s ZVS technology minimises switching losses and maintains high efficiency over the input-voltage range. At the same time, it enables high-frequency operation for improved power density and fast response to line and load transients.
The highly integrated PI3741-0x regulators have a wide operating-temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, and require few external components to form a complete regulator circuit.
Both PI3741-0x regulators operate over a wide input-voltage range of 21V-60V DC. They include a ZVS controller, power switches and support circuitry in a 10mm x 14mm x 2.5mm package which has excellent thermal properties. The PI3741-00 provides a user-definable output voltage in the range 21V to 36V DC, while the PI3741-01 supports a higher output voltage in the range 36V to 54V DC.
Backed by an online suite of design, system-analysis and simulation tools, these new regulators enable users to quickly configure a reliable, high-performance power system.
