Hirose – FPC connector supports high-speed interfaces such as USB3.0

Hirose has introduced the FH58 series of compact Flat Printed Circuit (FPC) connectors, intended for use in small portable electronic devices that require high-speed transmission of signals.

The connectors, which offer excellent impedance characteristics, support the high data rates required to support standards such as USB3.0, Embedded DisplayPort v1.3 and MIPI D-PHY v1.1.

The FH58 has a short mounted depth of 3.1mm, and is just 0.9mm high. Its fine pitch helps the user to save valuable board space.

Two multi-functional metal fittings are incorporated into the connector housing to provide for correct insertion and withdrawal, and to hold the FPC in place temporarily before locking it in place. A firm and tactile click confirms that the connector has been correctly locked.

When locked, the metal fittings close to hold the FPC’s tabs firmly in place.

The connector uses a top and bottom contact to allow the FPC to be inserted upwards or downwards. The contact points press into the FPC stiffener to increase the retention force. Contact springs follow the up- and-down movement of the FPC to maintain electrical continuity.
