STMicroelectronics has upgraded its 16V CMOS dual and quad analogue comparators, now fabricating them with next-generation process technology which results in a fall in the operating current to 5μA per comparator.
The new process technology also produces a faster propagation time and allows for an increase in the devices’ ESD capability to 4kV on the human body model.
Pin- and function-compatible with ST’s previous generation of comparator ICs, the TSX393, TSX339, TSX3702 and TSX3704 extend the performance and efficiency advantages of ST’s CMOS devices over competing bipolar comparators. With their wide single supply-voltage range of 2.7V to 16V, the new comparators can operate from the standard voltages used in a wide variety of applications, including industrial and automotive equipment. The new devices are rated for operation over a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.
The TSX393 has two comparators, and the TSX339 four. Both parts feature open- drain outputs, which can help to simplify circuit design when ORing or level-shifting are required.
The dual TSX3702 and quad TSX3704 have push-pull outputs for reliable signalling without pull-ups. An output-drive capability of up to 20mA allows direct connection to a wide variety of analogue or digital loads.
With the latest devices, ST is also introducing new, smaller package styles that ease design-in and simplify board layout and routing. The TSX393 and TSX3702 are now available in an 8-lead 2mm x 2mm flat package, as well as the existing SO-8, Mini- SO8 and TSSOP-8 packages. The TSX339 and TSX3704 may be supplied as a 16-lead, 3mm x 3mm flat package, as well as in SO-14 and TSSOP-14 styles.
