It integrates eight N-channel MOSFETs for stepper motors operating at up to 85V and a microstepping motor controller which is programmable over a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI).
The MOSFETs, which feature low on-resistance of 16mΩ, are configured as a full bridge with non-dissipative over-current protection. The device can operate on voltage-mode control or advanced current-mode control schemes, to suit the needs of the application.
The digital control core can generate user-defined motion profiles. Acceleration, deceleration, speed and target positions are easily programmed through a dedicated register set.
All application commands and data registers, including those used to set analogue values such as the current-protection trip point, dead time and PWM frequency, are transmitted via SPI.
The powerSTEP01 also features a full set of protection functions to prevent damage attributable to high temperatures, low voltages or excessive currents.
