TE Connectivity – Inertia-locking connectors include features to help prevent half-mated connections


The GRACE INERTIA series of wire-to-board and wire-to-wire power connectors from TE Connectivity (TE) helps manufacturers and assemblers to avoid the risk of defects attributable to half-mated connections and other errors in assembly.

The GRACE INERTIA connectors employ an inertia locking mechanism to simultaneously complete the circuit and lock the connector. This approach to the connector design recognises that visual inspection for half-mating is difficult – manufacturers commonly implement complicated inspection processes to detect half-mated connections.

The GRACE INERTIA connector’s lock-on mechanism, however, minimises the need for inspection, since it does not pass an electric current if it is half-mated. This means that a simple electrical conductivity test may be used to detect half-mated connections, making it easy to prevent defective products from being shipped to customers.
