It provides a complete set of battery- monitoring and control functions, including voltage and current sensing. The ISL94202 also provides for automatic shut-down and recovery after the battery goes beyond its rated operating conditions, and automatically controls passive cell-balancing switches.
The configurable ISL94202 can operate as a stand-alone device, or with an external microcontroller, which communicates to the IC through an I2C interface. For operation in stand-alone mode, an internal EEPROM can be user-configured with dedicated protection settings.
The ISL94202 measures the voltage individually at each cell in the battery pack, and performs high-side current measurement. This provides for high accuracy, enabling users to make reliable state-of-charge calculations and to implement meaningful fuel gauging.
The IC can handle inputs from one or two temperature sensors. It can also control high- side nMOS protection switches in a series Charge/Discharge configuration.
The device draws 13μA in sleep mode and less than 1μA in power-down mode. This means that a battery pack can be stored for a long period without the risk of fully discharging the cells.
