NXP Semiconductors’ S32K1 is a family of AEC-Q100 qualified microcontrollers based on 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M4F or Cortex-M0+ cores which are suitable for a wide range of automotive and high-reliability industrial applications.
The family consists of scalable MCU families which are hardware- and software-compatible, giving the user a choice of performance, memory and feature options, and easy migration from one device to another.
The features of the S32K1 MCUs include an interface to the high-speed CAN FD communication bus, a Secure Hardware Extension (SHE)-compliant Cryptographic Services Engine compressed (CSEc) hardware security module, and support for the ISO26262 functional safety standard to the ASIL-B grade. Multiple low-power operating modes are available, and the S32K1 also provides autonomous, low-power analogue, communication and timer peripherals.
Users of the MCU can take advantage of a pre-qualified, automotive-grade software development kit which includes low-level drivers for all MCU peripherals, and which is embedded in NXP’s free S32 Design Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
This Eclipse-based IDE supports the AUTOSAR software architecture and its Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL), and is compatible with third-party compilers and debuggers.
