NXP – New software resources make design of NFC-enabled products easier and faster


NXP Semiconductors has introduced new development tools and resources to make it easier for design engineers to integrate the company’s NFC ICs into end- product designs.

The NFC Reader Library supports NXP’s NFC front-end ICs such as the PN5180 or CLRC663 and the PN7462. It gives developers a faster and simpler way to deliver NFC-enabled products. This multi-layer library, written in C, provides for interrupt-based event handling, supports the FreeRTOS operating system and is compliant with MISRA-C. The software may be easily ported to many different microcontrollers.

The NFC Cockpit is an intuitive GUI which lets the user configure and adapt an NFC IC’s settings without writing a single line of software code. The NFC Cockpit may be used to configure the PN5180 NFC front-end, and the PN7462 and PN736x series of NFC microcontrollers.

Capabilities available in the NFC Cockpit include direct register and EEPROM read/ write access, RF field control, card operation, LPCD configuration, DPC configuration, start and stop of test applications such as EMVCo loopback, and automatic waveform control. Also from NXP, the application note AN11906: Starting a product development with PN5180 describes how to integrate the PN5180 NFC front-end IC into a design. It shows how to use the NFC Cockpit to properly configure the PN5180’s registers and EEPROM for the best reader performance.
