TT Electronics – Industrial and medical short-range optical sensor module has high immunity to ambient light


TT Electronics’ OPB9000 is a versatile optical sensor module which can be used in a wide variety of non- contacting presence-detection and position-sensing applications.

It is a fully integrated device including an 850nm IR LED and driver, photodiode, signal- processing circuitry and two-wire interface providing a digital output, housed in an eight-lead surface-mount package measuring 4.0mm x 2.2mm x 1.46mm.

The OPB9000 can detect various types of media with as little as a 30% change in reflectivity, over a reflective sensing range of up to 50mm. It offers particularly good immunity to ambient light conditions, rejecting interference from ambient light up to 25klux – full daylight.

Factory-calibrated to a white card at a 12mm distance, the OPB9000 offers plug-and-play operation in many applications. But it can also be re-calibrated in a matter of milliseconds with a single command to meet the specific requirements of a particular application.

Programmable output and sensitivity-level settings are stored in an on-board EEPROM.

The module features automatic temperature compensation of the LED driver circuit for consistent detection performance. In addition, automatic gain control avoids the need to constantly recalibrate the device as the LED ages.
