Intersil – New 12V buck regulators for auxiliary rails in industrial and infrastructure applications


Intersil has introduced five synchronous buck regulators which step-down 12V rails to point-of load inputs as low as 0.6V, and which provide an efficient and reliable power supply for microcontrollers, FPGAs, memory devices and peripheral I/Os.

The pin-compatible ISL85014, ISL85012 and ISL85009 regulators address applications requiring a high load current, while the 5A ISL85005A and ISL85005 regulators are pin- compatible with the existing ISL85003A and ISL85003 3A devices.

The ISL850xx regulators integrate high- and low-side MOSFETs which have very low on-resistance, helping to reduce external component count and keep power losses to a minimum. The ISL85009 is one of the industry’s most power-efficient 9A synchronous buck regulators, featuring on-resistance in the high-side FET of 17mΩ and 8.5mΩ in the low-side FET. Both the FETs provide a current limit and reverse-current limit to boost reliability and protect the system during an over-current event.

Because of their high efficiency, the ISL850xx devices operate at low die temperatures, allowing systems to operate without cooling fans or heat-sinks.
