Vishay – Solid tantalum chip capacitors help save space in handheld devices


Vishay Intertechnology’s T58 series of vPolyTanTM solid tantalum surface- mount chip capacitors offer improved volumetric efficiency, enabling designers of handheld devices to provide greater capacitance in a smaller space.

Combining polymer tantalum technology with Vishay’s high- efficiency MicroTan® packaging, the T58 series achieves industry-best capacitance-voltage ratings in six moulded case sizes, including 47μF at 6.3V in the compact M0 case and 220μF at 10V and 330μF at 6.3V in the BB case.

Using patented Multi-Array Packaging (MAP) assembly technology, the T58 capacitors save board space and enable the design of smaller and thinner end-products. In these devices, T58 series capacitors are intended for decoupling, smoothing, filtering and energy-storage functions.

The T58 devices are available in versions with a capacitance value ranging from 1.0μF to 330μF, with capacitance tolerance of ±20%. Voltage ratings range from 6.3V to 35V.

The capacitors feature low impedance, low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) from 50mΩ to 500mΩ, and ripple current from 0.224A to 1.30A at 100kHz.
