Vishay – Energy-storage capacitors offer high energy density and rapid charging and discharging


Vishay Intertechnology has announced an extension to its 220 EDLC ENYCAPTM series of Electrical Double- Layer Capacitors (EDLC) for use in energy harvesting and power back-up applications.

Available in Power and Energy versions, the ENYCAP devices now offer a wider range of capacitance values ranging from 15F to 60F, in eight small case sizes ranging from 16mm x 20mm to 18mm x 40mm. The radial through-hole cases are supplied with long leads.

The Power versions can provide high peak currents up to 35A at 65°C. In the Energy versions the maximum peak current is 25A at 65°C.

These new energy-storage capacitors offer high energy density of up to 4.1Wh/kg, and a rated voltage of 2.7V at 65°C. They also feature very low internal resistance and may be rapidly charged and discharged. Operation at up to 85°C is possible at an operating voltage of 2.3V.

The capacitors’ useful life is more than 10 years when operated at a temperature of 20°C, and they can withstand more than 500,000 charge/discharge cycles.
