Diodes Incorporated – Schottky diodes give performance gains of as much as 20%


Diodes Incorporated has used an advanced deep-trench fabrication process to produce a new SDT series of Schottky diodes which offers superior performance to planar-type Schottky diodes at similar or lower cost.

At launch the family consists of 29 devices housed in thermally- efficient packages. The new Schottky diodes may be used to provide the blocking, free- wheeling, flyback and other diode functions commonly required in a wide range of applications.

Diodes’ innovative deep-trench process enables the SDT family of Schottky diodes to offer a forward voltage as low as 0.62V, and a leakage current of just 3.5μA. These values are as much as 20% better than those of diodes manufactured on a planar process.

This exceptional performance results in outstanding power efficiency. It also helps designers to accommodate power-conversion circuits in smaller form factors.

Maximum average rectified-current ratings range from 5A to 40A, with peak repetitive reverse voltages up to 120V and forward surge currents as high as 280A. These values help designers to provide for robust system operation across the full operating-temperature range.

PowerDI®5, TO220AB and ITO220AB package options all offer excellent thermal-transfer properties which allow the SDT diodes to perform reliably in demanding applications. These packages are well suited to high-volume manufacturing processes. The PowerDI5 package has a particularly small footprint of 6.5mm x 4.0mm, and is just 1.1mm high.
