The DGD0506A and DGD0507A high-frequency gate-driver ICs introduced by Diodes Incorporated may be used to drive two external N-channel MOSFETs in a half-bridge configuration. A 50V rating suits a wide range of motor-driving requirements, especially battery-powered Brushless DC (BLDC) motors.
Logic-level inputs from as low as 2.5V allow the DGD0506A and DGD0507A drivers to be directly controlled by 3.3V MCUs, while the output steps up to the supply voltage, which is in a range from 8V to 14V. This ensures that the MOSFET is fully enhanced to keep conduction losses to a minimum.
With a 1.8A source and 2.5A sink current capability, these drivers minimise the switching time of very low on-resistance MOSFETS, including Diodes’ own DMT4002LPS, increasing overall system efficiencies.
The DGD0506A and DGD0507A gate drivers integrate a bootstrap diode to reduce component count. Requiring only a single input, the DGD0506A half-bridge driver reduces the system’s requirement for GPIO pins at the MCU.
The ICs provide a built-in programmable dead time in a range from 70ns to 420ns. For shorter dead times, the DGD0507A has separate high- and low-side inputs enabling higher switching frequencies with a 35ns maximum propagation delay that is matched to within 5ns. This, along with cross-conduction prevention logic, protects the MOSFETs by ensuring that the high and low outputs are not both on at the same time.
