NXP – Quad-core processor with multiple communications interfaces meets requirements of high-speed networked applications


The QorIQ LS1046A processor from NXP Semiconductors offers an impressive level of data-handling performance while providing interfaces for the most widely used high-speed communications protocols.

The LS1046A’s high data-processing performance is enabled by its four 64-bit ARM® Cortex®-A72 cores combined with a packet- processing acceleration engine and a 2Mbyte L2 cache. It achieves performance of more than 32,000 CoreMarks®. This is backed by the 10Gbit Ethernet, PCIe Gen 3, SATA 3.0, USB 3.0 and quad SPIs required in networking, storage, security and industrial applications.

The packet-processing acceleration engine provides for efficient packet classification and distribution, hardware work scheduling, shaping and buffer management. It offloads packet processing tasks from the general- purpose processors to enable them to concentrate their processing cycles on value- added operations.

The LS1046A also features an integrated security engine, which implements high-speed security processing, for protocols including IPsec, SSL, DTLS and IKE. It also supports high-speed XORing for RAID 5 acceleration.

The LS1046A is provided in a 23mm x 23mm package and is pin-compatible with the LS1023A, LS1043A and LS1088A SoCs. This gives designers the option to develop scalable platforms based on 64-bit ARM processors, ranging from dual A53 cores through the octal A53 to quad A72 processors, while maintaining hardware and software compatibility.
