STMicroelectronics – STM32 MCU interface to IBM Watson IoT supports predictive maintenance


STMicroelectronics has introduced a function pack which provides a ready-made interface between sensors mounted on industrial equipment and the IBM® Watson IoTTM cloud application for predictive maintenance and condition monitoring.

The FP-CLD-WATSON1 function pack can connect any IoT node based on an STM32 Nucleo microcontroller board to the IBM Watson IoT application, transmit sensor data and receive commands from remote applications.

The software includes a middleware package implementing the MQTT protocol to facilitate interaction between an STM32 Nucleo board and cloud services.

Integrated algorithms perform processing of accelerometer data which can be used to detect vibration in equipment such as motors, fans and pumps.
