Vishay – Automotive-grade dual inductor saves space in Class-D amplifiers


Vishay Intertechnology’s IHLD series of low-profile, high-current dual inductors includes a device, the IHLD-3232HB-5A, supplied in a 3232 case which helps designers of automotive and commercial Class-D amplifier circuits to save board space.

Supporting a maximum operating temperature of 155°C, the automotive-grade IHLD-3232HB-5A accommodates its two inductors in one 9.75mm x 9.14mm package.

When used in automotive and commercial Class-D amplifier circuits, the dual-inductor package gives better performance than an equivalent design that uses multiple individual inductors.

It produces low total harmonic distortion, the result of its excellent temperature stability of inductance and linear saturation characteristic. In addition, the dual-inductor configuration reduces coupling effects, thus keeping cross-talk between the inductors to a minimum.

The IHLD-3232HB-5A is available with inductance values ranging from 5μH to 33μH, and with DC resistance values from 29.2mΩ to 159.43mΩ. Vishay also supplies the IHLD4032KB-5A dual inductor in an 11.2mm x 11.9mm package, which offers inductance values of 10μH, 15μH, 22μH or 33μH.
