The SiC46x series of synchronous buck regulators from Vishay operates over a very wide input-voltage range of 4.5V to 60V and provides an output current of up to 10A with high conversion efficiency.
The SiC46x regulators include integrated high- and low-side N-channel trench power MOSFETs, and operate at an adjustable switching frequency of up to 2MHz. The SiC461 is rated for a maximum output current of 10A.
The other parts are the 2A SiC464, the 4A SiC463 and the 6A SiC462.
The regulators are capable of providing an adjustable output voltage as low as 0.8V and as high as 90% of the input voltage. The 60V input-voltage rating of the SiC46x devices means that they can handle the kick-back transients caused by motors in power tools, battery-operated vehicles and robotic vacuum and garden equipment. It also makes them suitable for use in a wide variety of battery packs and high-voltage battery chargers.
The SiC46x regulators’ architecture provides for ultra-fast response to voltage transients with a small requirement for output capacitance. Tight ripple regulation is
maintained at very light loads.
The devices are stable with any capacitor, and no external ESR network is required for loop stability. The SiC46x parts also incorporate a power-saving scheme which significantly increases light-load efficiency.
The regulators offer a full set of protection functions, including over- voltage and under-voltage protection and thermal shut-down.
