STMicroelectronics – 250mA LDO regulator draws very low current in stand-by and shut-down modes


The LDLN025 from STMicroelectronics is a Low-Dropout (LDO) voltage regulator which provides a clean, accurate and stable output for noisesensitive loads, and which offers low power dissipation for use in battery powered applications.

The LDLN025 is produced in multiple versions each with a fixed output voltage, from the lowest at 1.2V to the highest at 5.0V. All operate from an input-voltage range of 1.5V to 5.5V, and supply a maximum output current of 250mA.

Thanks to its ultra-low noise value and high Power Supply Rejection Ratio (PSRR), the LDLN025 provides a very clean output, suitable for very sensitive loads. It is stable with ceramic capacitors.

At the same time, it is efficient in its use of power: the typical dropout voltage when supplying a 250mA load is 120mV. Quiescent current is just 12μA when there is no load, which makes this device suitable for battery powered systems which have long periods of operation in stand-by mode. An Enable function can put the device into shut-down mode to reduce power usage even further, drawing a current lower than 1μA.

The LDLN025 includes short-circuit and thermal protection functions.
