TT Electronics – Reflective optical sensor combines reliability with high immunity to interference from ambient light


TT Electronics has introduced the Photologic® V OPB9000 reflective optical sensor module for industrial and medical applications. The sensor provides dependable edge and presence detection of reflective media under a wide range of ambient light conditions.

The OPB9000 sensor provides a CMOS logic output, and offers programmable sensitivity and output polarity settings. Its very high immunity to optical interference – it can handle ambient light brighter than 25klux – allows for reliable operation in any conditions, from a dark room to bright sunlight. At the same time, its high sensitivity means that it can detect media that produce a change in reflectance of as little as 30%.

Self-calibration eliminates the need for constant recalibration as the module’s LED ages. Temperature compensation and automatic gain control enable it to reliably function in the most demanding and dynamic conditions.

The integrated OPB9000 module includes an Infrared (IR)emitter, IR sensor, analogue front-end and digital interface in a miniature 4.0mm x 2.2mm x 1.5mm surface-mount package. By eliminating the need for complex external analogue circuitry, the OPB9000 simplifies system design and reduces board space requirements by up to 80%.
