Vishay – Automotive-grade three- and four-channel IR transmissive sensors for position-measurement encoders

The TCUT1630X01 and TCUT1800X01 from Vishay are compact transmissive sensors which include Infrared (IR) emitters and photo-transistor detectors located face-to-face in a surface-mount package. The sensor can detect the position of an object such as an optical codewheel moving between the arms of the device.

The surface-mount TCUT1630X01 and TCUT1800X01 each measure 5.5mm x 5.9mm x 7mm, and provide a gap of 3mm between the emitter and detector. With a taller dome than previous-generation devices, and an additional channel for a vertical push function or indexing tab, the TCUT1630X01 is ideal for turn and push encoding. It features one IR emitter and three detectors.

The quad-channel TCUT1800X01 includes two IR emitters and four detectors, and can detect up to 16 positions, a capability suitable for absolute and incremental encoding applications.
