USB-C Power Delivery controller qualified for Thunderbolt 3 designs
Cypress Semiconductor has announced that its programmable EZ-PD™ CCG5 two-port USB-C controller with Power Delivery (PD) has been qualified by Intel for use in Thunderbolt™ 3 host and peripheral designs. Thunderbolt 3-over-USB-C enables data transfers at speeds up to 40Gbits/s via a compact port, with the ability to transmit multiple protocols and provide fast device charging.

New MCU software library for touch pads with surface gestures
Microchip Technology has announced a new 2D Touch Surface library which enables designers to easily implement touch pads using the company’s 8-bit PIC® or AVR® microcontrollers or the 32-bit SAM MCUs. Ideal for implementing small touch pads and screens, the 2D Touch Surface library runs on a device’s existing compatible MCU. This removes the need for a dedicated touch controller, giving product designers the flexibility to add finger position tracking and gesture detection, such as swipes, pinch and zoom, to products at no extra cost.

New LCD modules offer extra high luminance
Tianma has introduced two new liquid-crystal displays, a 10.1″ WXGA and a 15.6″ WXGA, which offer high luminance. These modules are ideal for industrial applications in which the display will be viewed outdoors or in other brightly lit applications such as cash machines and payment terminals.

The 10.1″ NL12880BC16-02F model has a luminance of 1,000cd/m2, and the 15.6″ NL13676BC25-07F, 1,250cd/m2.
